This Year's Model Updates:

For 2003, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has received refinements that improve its ride and handling. The suspension features reduced pressure shocks and the brake master cylinder output has been increased to improve brake pedal feel. There are also new brake calipers and a revised steering gear torsion bar. Available trims have been narrowed from five to three; the Sport and Special Edition trims have been discontinued. Standard on 2003 Laredo models is a new high-back cloth seat. Finally, in all Jeep Grand Cherokee interiors, a new cubby bin for holding sunglasses or cellular phones has been added to the instrument panel, replacing the ashtray.

Pros:
  • Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
Cons:
  • Noisy and unrefined, questionable reliability.

  • Jeep Overland Rocks - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I never even considered a Jeep until this year. I been strictly a Chevy man driving Blazers and Tahoes. But a salesman at a Jeep dealer challenged me to just try one. I had already made up my mind a Grand Cherokee was junk. That is until I drove it. WOW!!! This Overland rode like a dream, handled very well and accelerated like a rocket. I thought the 5.7 vortec in my hoe was peppy. But the 4.7 high output v8 in this Overland blows it away. Itll be a long time before I ever buy another over priced, over rated, GM.

  • Replacing my Wrangler - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Just traded in my 2001 Wrangler for this, and it was hard to part with, but I havent looked back! It has everything that you need, and it is a great size. Also, has great pick-up with the HO V8 and is so comfortable and rides real smooth... I cant say enough good things about this,

  • Read all the facts before you buy! - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This was my first significant buy when it comes to an SUV and it was the BIGGEST mistake I could have made. I have owned the Jeep for 29 days and it has made 4 trips to the repair shop! Many difficulties with it not starting up, but just cranking and cranking. The shifting from Park to either Reverse or Drive is a real hard shift and makes me wonder if there are problems with the design with the transmission. The reliability for Jeep is garbage! I use to own a Jeep Wrangler and I was a die hard fan of JeepÂ…not so much anymore. I am taking mine back and buying a Nissan Xterra. Read all the other reviews and you too will see there are many problems. BEWARE!!

  • 2003 Jeep Laredo is a Danger on the road - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My Jeep is now in the shop for the 6th time in 5 weeks, for the same problem-it keeps shutting off; at lights, stop signs, on the road, in the parking lot. Lose power steering and brakes. Only has not quite 58,000 miles on it over 6 years and 3 months. I will NEVER buy another Chrysler car again.

  • It is OK - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The 2004 Jeep Liberty Limited that got T-boned and this replaced seemed to have much more user friendly dashboard control settings. Check engine light came on shortly after purchase at 113000 miles and needed two repairs to fix that the 30 day warranty charged two $100 deductibles for and didnt completely cover other parts of what was only One problem. The steering wheel makes noises when making sharp turns into parking places. The cruise control has to be pushed just right in the lower bottom of the control to activate. And the ride on city streets seems pretty bumpy.

  • Never Again... - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This was the first vehicle I bought brand new. If I have ever had a vehicle nickel and dime me, it would be this one. Little things that arent covered by the warranty. It started about 20K miles, with the brakes, and went downhill from there, rear axle, power steering, an electric window broke (in the winter), and CD player to name a few. If you dont mind the little fixes, go ahead and buy one. If you want a vehicle to stand by their warranty and is proud of their name. Dont go with any Chrysler. I love to drive this car, but I cant stand the "issues". I have never EVER put as much money into all of my cars combine, as I have put into this one.

  • Overland/Overpriced/Overfed - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

2003 Jeep Overland -My 2nd Jeep - 4000 miles later.....plastic trim falling off, glass chipped on both side windows when delivered, engine performance at highway speeds poor , gas mileage terrible, build quality worse. Handles like a boat. For $39,000 I expected more Should have purchased a laredo 6 cyl for a little more than 1/2 price of this Overland. Wont buy another one.

  • Why did I buy? - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I bought this Overland used with 44,500 miles on it and I have had it for 2 weeks. The first day the heat stopped working on the drivers side (Im told is a common and EXPENSIVE problem) $680 I had that fixed after much yelling and screaming at the dealership. Now in the second week the truck gas mileage is down to about 10 miles to the gallon and is bogging down. I think it might have an upper intake gasket leak. It bucks when under power. I have put about 300 miles on the truck and this is the second time it needs to go in. What a piece of junk. I was warned about Chrysler products and wish I had took the warnings more serious. Next truck will definitely be foreign. Sorry USA.

  • Dont Waste your money - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have had nothing but issues with the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The mechanics in the automatic windows is faulty, this model has a well documented faulty brake problem, with a class action lawsuit to boot. The transmission is no dream either, constantly slips and has trouble shifting gears. This oversized golf cart is quite possibly the worst investment that you can ever make, save your money and get an Accord. Ive also had issues with alignment on the vehicle, so in short I really dont have anything positive to save about the Jeep Grand Cherokee other than the fact that the wheels have not flown off the vehicle while driving but I must say that is about it. Hope this helps.

  • MANNYS TRUE REVIEW...SO FAR !. - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

MY TRUTHFUL experience with this vehicle has been very favorable thus far as I have not encountered any problems of any significance as of today -5-11-03 (nearly 6 months after purchase).I have no complaints about the ride as I have confidence the vehicle will navigate any driving situation I might encounter during my driving experiences on the job which includes going up hilly terrain to remote telecommunications tower sites when required to .Driving the vehicle does not seem to create any unneccessary effort as it is a plain pleasure for me to steer it and make the vehicle perform as I want it to.
